open, inclusive, welcoming
St Mary’s is dedicated to praise through music. It is a focal point for artistic energy and vision. It has a new challenge:
to preserve and restore an exceptional Willis organ.

Music is at the heart
of St Mary's
St Mary’s congregation love to worship through communal singing and its musicians and choir aspire to a professional standard. They perform a varied repertoire. Worship at the Cathedral forms part of regular BBC Radio broadcasts. Less well known is the educational and cultural work it does as one of the few places in Glasgow where young singers can learn to sing for free.
An extraordinary gift: a
wonderful Willis organ
The current organ’s life-span is severely limited due to wear and tear. It is holding back the development of St Mary’s musicians and choirs. In an act of outstanding generosity the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Glasgow have donated one of the finest organs in Scotland: a Willis organ. Kept in storage for many years it needs repairs for which funding must be raised.
Music is not just for some, it is for everyone
The Willis organ will release a whole new repertoire not just for St Mary’s own musicians and choir but for the long list of musicians, choirs and organisations hosted by the Cathedral. The Willis organ will become an important arts resource for the City. St Mary’s has the potential reach out and share the Willis organ throughout Glasgow and beyond.
